Abstract

Objective: To describe the positive health outcomes following chiropractic care experienced by a seven-year-old boy with autism.

Clinical Features: A seven-year-old boy presents to a chiropractic clinic with chief complaints of stimming, poor social skills, lack of comprehension, and decreased executive function. He was diagnosed as autistic at the age of three years and nine months.

Intervention and Outcomes: The patient received chiropractic care, starting off with very gentle techniques such as sustained contact and Bio Energetic Synchronization Technique (B.E.S.T.), proceeding with Activator Methods, Network Spinal Analysis and cranial adjustments. Exercises to inhibit persistent primitive reflexes were given for the patient to do at home. The mother reported improvement of the autistic behavior after less than three months of chiropractic care.

Conclusion: This case study demonstrates the relationship between chiropractic care and decrease in autistic symptoms. Although multiple case and clinical studies show positive outcomes between chiropractic care and autism, further research should be conducted.
