About

Dr. McCoy

A researcher, academic, lecturer, author and consultant, he is presently Publisher and Editor in Chief of the Journal of Pediatric, Maternal and Family Health, Annals of Vertebral Subluxation Research, Journal of Philosophy, Principles & Practice of Chiropractic, The Journal of Upper Cervical Chiropractic Research and was is the past Editor of the Journal of Vertebral Subluxation Research. He is Vice President of the Foundation for Vertebral Subluxation Research, CEO & Co-Founder of ChiroFutures Malpractice Insurance Program and serves on the Board of Trustees of Sherman College of Chiropractic

Dr. McCoy grew up in and around chiropractors and the chiropractic profession. Entering chiropractic college at a young age he had the good fortune to learn from some of the greatest chiropractic educators of our time. Upon graduating he then worked with some of the most successful practitioners and clinicians of our time.

He started his own family practice in Florida which quickly grew to four integrative health care centers at a time when the term was unheard of and the concept just beginning. Having accomplished his practice goals he turned his attention to academics, research and politics. This fork in the road brought him to Russia where he lived, worked and established the first chiropractic center in that country within a women and children’s hospital. Following that he joined Life University as a member of the faculty in the College of Chiropractic. Starting in the outpatient teaching clinic he held a number of faculty and administrative appointments over 18 years including Professor of Clinical Sciences and Director of Research.

His educational background includes receiving his undergraduate degree in Organizational Management from Covenant College, a Doctor of Chiropractic degree from Life University and a Masters of Public Health with a concentration in Health Outcomes from Emory University—one of the top 10 schools of public health in the world.

He has extensive postgraduate training and certifications in the areas of research, applied chiropractic sciences, spinal adjusting technique, spinal trauma, treatment and rehabilitation. He additionally has post graduate training in magnetic resonance imaging, electroneurodiagnostics, spinal outcome assessment, impairment rating and is a Certified Independent Medical Examiner. Dr. McCoy is a Candidate for Diplomate Status in Applied Chiropractic Science through the International Chiropractors Association.

Actively involved in guidelines development and best practices initiatives since the early 1990’s, Dr. McCoy was a founding board member of the Council on Chiropractic Practice.

He has been engaged in both state and national politics related to chiropractic and health policy giving him rich political experience. He was a chiropractic liason to the Institute of Medicine’s Committee on Complimentary and Alternative Medicine. He is a member of numerous national and state chiropractic and health related organizations.

Engaged in an active research agenda, his current areas of interests include health outcomes research, pediatric research, prevention of chronic, lifestyle related diseases, personal health autonomy, and outcomes measurement in health care.

Dr. McCoy has served as an expert witness and consultant in numerous state board actions, malpractice cases, peer review, insurance and IME issues. These include cases in both the United States and countries abroad such as Australia and the United Kingdom. He is a strong and vocal advocate for traditional, conservative chiropractic.

He is currently the CEO & Co-Founder of ChiroFutures Malpractice Insurance Program and serves on the Board of Trustees of Sherman College of Chiropractic.
