William Ralph Boone, Ph.D.,D.C. 68, of 120 S. Lake Emory Dr. died unexpectedly Sunday, November 21st, 2010 at his residence.
Dr. Boone was born in Hopewell, Virginia on October 6, 1942, the son of the late Charles Harvey “Jake” Boone and Iva Ray (Mosley) Boone. He is survived by his wife Bonnie Susan (Boswell) Boone.
Dr. Boone was a man of faith and attained many accomplishments during his lifetime. Dr. Boone graduated from the College of William and Mary with a B. S. in Biology in 1966, the University of Richmond with an M.S. in Biology in 1968 and a Ph.D in Biology from USC Columbia, SC in 1974. In 1990 he received a Doctor of Chiropractic degree from Sherman College of Straight Chiropractic.
Dr. Boone was also a Licensed Chiropractor in SC and a Registered Chiropractor in Victoria, Australia and in New Zealand. He was a member of the New Zealand Chiropractor’s Association.
From 1974-77, he was an Assistant Professor at the University of South Carolina and from 1980 to 1990 he was a Professor and Director of Research and Computer Resources at Sherman College of Straight Chiropractic in Spartanburg, SC. He served as President of Southern California College of Chiropractic from 1990-94 and from 1996-98 he was Docent instructor in cell biology and human anatomy at Irvine Valley College, Irvine, Ca.
He was Editor of the Journal of Vertebral Subluxation Research serving in that capacity from 1996-2000 and remained Editor Emeritus thereafter. From 1998-2000 he was the Acting Head of School at the New Zealand College of Chiropractic in Auckland, New Zealand and also the Director of Research there. From 2002-2004 he was the Director of Research for the Association of Network Care and from 2004 to 2010 he was the Director of Research at Sherman College of Chiropractic.
His accreditation experience included being a 1990 Site visitor for the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and from 1991-1995 he served as President of the Straight Chiropractic Academic Standards Association. Dr. Boone was awarded a Post-Doctoral Fellowship for study at the Leon Fredericq Institute, University of Liege, Belgium from 1977-78 and was awarded a visiting researcher grant for study at the Marine Station of Endoume, Marseilles, France.
Dr. Boone was the Moderator for the Proceedings of the International Straight Chiropractic Consensus Conference in Chandler, AZ in 1992. He was a founding board member of the Council on Chiropractic Practice and served as its Vice President for several years.
Surviving, in addition to his wife Bonnie, is his son, Christopher Charles Boone and his wife Marijana of Portland, Oregon, a daughter, Catherine Lanier Boone of Spartanburg, SC , a brother, Charles Ray Boone and his wife Lillian of Prattville, Ala., two grandchildren, Kai Porter Boone and Maya Claire-Sequoia Boone, his step son, Donald Joseph Glisson, II. and a step daughter Lydia Nicolle Glisson both of Colonial Hgts, Va. and the mother of Christopher and Catherine Boone, Mary Lou Chipley-Boone of Spartanburg, SC.
