Abstract

Background: Epilepsy is a neurological disorder that can affect any age group.  This case describes the positive health outcomes in a child with seizures and includes a systematic review of the literature on the chiropractic care of patients with seizure disorders.

Clinical Features: An 11-year-old male experiencing epileptic seizures and nystagmus. Examination revealed postural changes, vertebral subluxations, and restricted range of motion.

Intervention & Outcomes: The child was compliant with chiropractic care visit recommendations.  Following chiropractic care, the frequency of his seizures decreased, and the nystagmus improved. Overall, the patient’s seizure frequency decreased from six per day to once a month.

Conclusion: This case described the outcomes experienced by a pediatric patient with a history of epileptic seizures undergoing chiropractic care.  More research is warranted.

Keywords: Epilepsy, seizures, chiropractic, adjustment, subluxation, spinal manipulation
