Abstract
During the past several months I have had the opportunity to speak to students, faculty and practitioners concerning research as it pertains to the advancement of subluxation-based chiropractic care. It has been refreshing to sense the high level of enthusiasm and heightened awareness of the need for continued investigation into all aspects of our professional interests. I was pleasantly surprised that none to whom my topics were addressed had any difficulty understanding the basic tenets of research, nor did they falter in understanding the manner in which current disciplines have spliced the research pie into wedges that fit their own unique paradigms. My impression is that the majority of those advocating subluxation-based chiropractic are anxious to begin the process of developing experience in publishing case reports and other clinically oriented studies. I am convinced more than ever that the time has arrived for the profession to account for its claims. There must be a concerted effort to advance our knowledge through published studies investigating the efficacy of subluxation-based chiropractic care and its ramifications pertaining to overall health. Research will ultimately enhance our level of understanding regarding the interplay of variables and mechanisms of action of the vertebral subluxation in all facets of care.
