Abstract
Objective: To examine the positive health outcomes following effects of subluxation-based chiropractic care in a 10-year-old male patient diagnosed with Tourette’s syndrome (TS), obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), and nocturnal enuresis. Improvements in neurological, structural, and functional development following chiropractic intervention were assessed.
Clinical Features: The patient presented with motor and vocal tics associated with TS alongside OCD symptoms including anxiety, behavioral rigidity, and sensory sensitivities. He also experienced nocturnal enuresis and separation anxiety. Previous interventions demonstrated minimal therapeutic benefit. Initial examination revealed increased autonomic nervous system stress through abnormal thermographic patterns, surface electromyography (sEMG), and heart rate variability (HRV), accompanied by structural and functional deficits.
Interventions and Outcomes: The patient received chiropractic adjustments targeting vertebral subluxations. Neurological assessments, including thermography, sEMG, and heart rate variability monitoring, were utilized to track progress. Supportive tools such as the Brain Blossom™ program and visual aids were utilized after improvement in outcomes associated with adaptability of the nervous system was seen. Structural and functional development demonstrated improvement throughout the care period, with measurable reductions in tic frequency and severity, decreased anxiety and behavioral rigidity, along with improved bladder control. Parent-reported outcomes included enhanced focus, increased participation in activities, and overall improved behavioral flexibility. Continued chiropractic care at a reduced frequency maintained these gains.
Conclusion: This case study demonstrates the potential benefits of chiropractic care in addressing neurological imbalances and behavioral challenges in pediatric patients with TS and OCD. Following consistent chiropractic intervention focused on correcting vertebral subluxations, the patient experienced clinically significant improvements in tic severity, anxiety levels, emotional regulation, and nocturnal enuresis. These outcomes suggest that chiropractic adjustments may enhance nervous system adaptability and reduce stress responses in children with neurodevelopmental conditions.
