Abstract
Objective: To describe the chiropractic care of a pregnant woman with low back pain (LBP), pelvic girdle pain (PGP), and a frank breech fetal presentation.
Clinical Features: A 32-year-old woman in her third pregnancy presented at 35 weeks with complaints of pregnancy-related LBP and bilateral PGP. Her pain was located in the hips, sacroiliac joints, and gluteal muscles, with occasional radiation into the anterior thighs. A magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan confirmed the fetus in frank breech position. Examination findings included postural imbalances, muscular tension, and structural shifts in the thoracic, lumbar, and sacral spine, with restricted motion at the pelvis and round ligament tension.
Intervention and Outcomes: The patient received chiropractic care using the Webster Technique, including drop table adjustments, soft tissue release, and specific ligament and muscle work. Over 18 visits, her symptoms improved, and at 37 weeks and 1 day pregnant, she delivered vaginally without complications. Notably, the baby presented in a vertex position at delivery, despite previously confirmed frank breech positioning.
Conclusion: This case illustrates the potential benefit of chiropractic care using the Webster Technique in reducing vertebral subluxations, alleviating neuro-musculoskeletal discomfort, and facilitating the resolution of breech fetal presentation. Continued research and documentation of similar cases are encouraged to inform evidence-based prenatal chiropractic care.
