Abstract
Objective: The purpose of this study is to report on the positive health outcomes following chiropractic in a man suffering from chronic insomnia.
Clinical Features: A 69-year-old male patient presented with difficulty sleeping. Patient reported dissatisfaction with sleep quantity and quality for over ten years. Chiropractic exam revealed upper cervical subluxations, loss of cervical curve and degeneration from C4-C7.
Intervention and Outcomes: Diversified adjusting technique to C1 and C2 subluxations were utilized. After nine adjustments the patient reports that he can now sleep up to 6 hours and wakes only once a night for 1-2 hours.
Conclusion: This case demonstrates a situation in which chiropractic care has helped a patient increase sleep quantity and quality. The decrease of symptoms within four months of care suggests a relationship between insomnia and vertebral subluxations. Further investigation and research into spinal subluxations as contributing factors to insomnia should be pursued.
