Chapter 11 Preview:
Pregnancy, labor, and the birthing process have become much more invasive over the past several decades. Expectant mothers are often exposed to moderate levels of questionable diagnostic testing, internal examinations and, in the case of infertility, hormone manipulation which often leads to multiple fetuses and premature infants along with associated risks and costs.
Women are routinely placed in risk categories if they become pregnant after 35 years of age and are often subjected to C-section delivery thereby increasing the risk of physical birth trauma.
It is important to understand that most parents are minimally aware of any of the negative effects these standard and regularly utilized procedures have on the health of the child .
